"Fitness" should not be a distant goal you keep on a pedestal. It's not something you get around to doing someday. Fortunately, getting fit need not involve throwing your whole life into a state of chaos. You can start getting in shape by following these easy tips.

If you are just starting a workout routine you should consider a one time consultation with one of the gym's personal trainers. Find a trainer that will help you plan and stick to a workout. Having someone there to meet you at the gym on your first day will make the situation less daunting, more enjoyable, and the routine much easier to get into. You will be on your way to a great start to a plan you can stick to.

When working out using weights, start by using smaller machines first. The smaller muscles in your body get tired out before the larger muscles, so begin with lower-weight dumbbells and then move up to tougher-weight machines. By doing this, your smaller, more delicate muscle groups can rest while you work out your larger muscles.

Having strong thighs will insure against injuring your knees. Torn ligaments behind the kneecap are a common injury obtained from sports and other physical activities. Make sure to exercise your quads as well as your hamstrings to prevent this from happening to you. You can accomplish doing this by doing leg curls and also leg extensions.

Maintain a fitness log detailing your fitness activities for the day. By recording data you will ensure that you push it as much as possible.

The best way to avoid injury when walking for exercise is to you proper form. Try walking upright and make sure that you draw back your shoulders. Your elbows should fall to around a 90-degree angle. Put your front foot opposite your arms. Make sure that you are walking heal to toe.

Try actually doing the exercises that you do not normally like to do. It is believed that people tend not to do exercises in which they perform poorly.

It's the same principal as conquering your fears. Do the exercises you hate the most at the beginning and keep adding them to your routine.

Do you want to get the most out of your workout routine? It has been a proven fact that stretching can build up strength by twenty percent. Take a moment between exercises to stretch your muscles. A mere twenty or thirty seconds of extra stretching can be the difference between a good workout and a great workout. Stretching doesn't have to be complex to be beneficial, and simple is often better.

When beginning in fitness routine, avoid calling it a workout or exercise. Simply by referring to it using either of those terms may actually decrease your motivation to exercise. The best way to get around this is to refer to the exercise you are doing by its actual name, such as swimming or skiing.

Make fitness as much of a daily to-do as showering and laundry. Once you become used to exercising, you won't even think twice about doing it anymore.
