Have You Heard All The Talk About The HCG Diet?

By Riley T. Simonis

The HCG diet is a low-calorie diet helped by supplemental drops. On a low calorie diet, the body uses up the day's calorie intake faster and begins to burn fat as a source of fuel instead. The supplements used in the diet help to maintain muscle mass and burn only fat where a low-calorie diet alone would affect muscles before fat is used. HCG drops help in easing any negative side effects, such as irritability or fatigue normally associated with low-calorie diets. While on the HCG diet, the body restructures the way it normally uses stored fat and daily calorie intake. The implication phase, the training of the metabolism and the maintenance phase are the three stages used in the special diet plan.

In the beginning of the special diet, the first two days require of an increased calorie intake along with initiation of HCG drops. The first stage of the diet helps to re-set the body's natural way of processing calorie intake and burning fat, which will be utilized in the low-calorie portion of the diet. The higher calorie intake at the start of the diet also helps to eliminate hunger during the low-calorie portion of the diet. During the second phase of the special diet, the body is beginning to use stored fat as fuel and the initiation of a low-calorie diet will help to ensure that it continues to do so.

The final portion of the diet, known as the maintenance stage, begins when the drops have successfully altered the body's metabolism. Calorie intake begins to increase back to regular levels, and the use of formula is no longer necessary in the maintenance phase of the special diet.

Calorie intake, however, should be slowly raised as to not disrupt the metabolism and the body's new process of burning fat. During the maintenance phase of the diet, weight should be monitored carefully to confirm that the body's restructured metabolism is preserved throughout the calorie increase.

With the low-calorie intake during the diet program, only light exercise is recommended for the physical activity portion of the diet. Because there are fewer calories used for energy, strenuous exercise could cause starvation and fatigue as the calories are used quicker. There are no known side effects of the plan and the hormones in the drops will not cause any interference with menstrual cycles. Higher calorie intakes required for nourishment during pregnancy cause the the plan to yield little to no results if used by pregnant women.
