Knock off a Few Years with Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

Cosmetic treatments have advanced tremendously in the recent years, particularly when it comes to the treatment for facial wrinkles. No one wants to be though of as "old" but sadly in this world, having younger looking skin is very important and if there are visible wrinkles others will not find a person as attractive.

But what do wrinkle treatments involve? With so many offering the treatments, what is it you should be aware of before you opt for it? Here we take a closer look at wrinkle treatments in general.

Exactly what is involved when getting wrinkle treatments?

Damage to our skin can come from a variety of sources, pollutants in the atmosphere coming from vehicle exhaust, potentially harmful UV exposure from the sun, smoke, many things contribute to this. The skin forms these wrinkles that are seen on the face, and the more there is, the less attractive some people consider you to be, unfortunately.

Wrinkle treatments are aimed at removal of wrinkles using a certain toxin called botulinum toxin. Laser treatments, simple skin creams, and chemical peels are other options that are designed to accomplish this goal. The popularity of botox treatments is gaining ground quickly, despite the other options available. We see ads for products on the market constantly, but the truth is that anti-wrinkle creams can only do so much to make wrinkles less noticeable.

What treatments make the most difference?

At this time, this can not be answered with a high degree of certainty. Depending on the patient and the type of wrinkles on their face, a treatment that will help them best will be determined and administered. From the available data and result, it appears that dermal fillers and botox injection have very good results, which is probably why they are so popular.

How long do treatments last for?

The effects correlate to the particular treatment that is provided. Skin creams have short lived effects and need repeat application often, sometimes daily to show any effect whatsoever. Botox injections are a dermal filler option that will typically last for months on end.

Price of treatment compared to effectiveness

Treatment of facial wrinkles is not cheap. Advanced techniques such as dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation methods and botox injections can cost anywhere from $300 to $3000 (or even more) depending on the person that is performing the procedure. Creams are obviously a lot cheaper but require more regular application, meaning they need to be purchased a lot more often. After a period of time, the proper cost of treatments and the results obtained can be measured more accurately. It looks like for treatment of facial wrinkles, dermal fillers such as botox treatments are the most economical, in the big picture. CO2 lasers are touted by certain physicians as being the treatments that are most cost effective.

Recovery time after treatment

No recovery time is necessary for skin creams. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. Having said that, this does not make microdermabrasion the best treatment as multiple treatments are required that can be rather uncomfortable to the patient.

Synopsis

There are a lot of choices available for the treatment of facial wrinkles. There are both good and bad points for each kind of treatment. Patients should take all of these things into careful consideration, including looking at the provider's credentials and experience, the price, and which treatments they feel they can handle best.
