The summertime heat is the ultimate excuse for taking a dip in the cool and refreshing water. It means time to don the bathing suits, blow up those floating toys and enjoy the sunshine and some icy cold beverages. There are so many pool party games for kids that are fun, exciting and sure fire ways to have a full on blast.

Children and water go together better than milk and cookies. From the time they are quite young, most of them are happy to just jump in and splash around for hours day after day. When celebrating with a group of friends, a bit of organized play may be just the thing to keep everyone enjoying themselves and playing together.

Just because something is a classic, does not mean it is not still exciting. Almost everyone can remember playing Marco Polo when they were younger. The simple concept of having the person who is it close their eyes and yell "Marco!" while everyone else bobs around, responding with "Polo!" while trying to avoid being tagged, will be a favorite for generations to come.

Chicken fights are yet another classic favorite that has a larger thrill element and should be reserved for teens or older children. It requires all players to split off into pairs with one in the water supporting their partner on their shoulders. The point of the game is for all the top people to try and wrestle their opponents off their bottoms and the last couple standing are declared the winners.

Creating a whirlpool is great game team effort game to play in rounded pools with a constant depth level for the best results. Everyone makes a single file line and follows the leader around the circumference, gaining speed with each new lap. Going as fast as they can, the group will build up enough momentum to get the water spinning on it's own, at which point they can all simply hit the floating position and ride the wave, so to speak.

Water jousting is an energetic competition that requires balance and dexterity and can be played as teams or individual elimination rounds. Players use rafts as their virtual horses and pool noodles as their lances. They meet in the center and attempt to knock each other off of their seats with a goal to be the last one still riding and take away a victory.

Relay races can be a lot of fun with various floating devices such as rafts, donuts and inner tubes. All the children should form two teams, half of each going to opposite poolsides. The starters mount the floats and paddle as quickly as possible to their teammate waiting on the other end, they tag out and the seconds make their way back across to the third, continuing the passes until every member of one group has made it for the win.

Keeping the young folks occupied during the hot summer days is a lot easier than it may seem. Invite some friends or family over and enjoy all the great pool party games for kids. There are all the time tested favorites but new adventures may be created simply by using a few toys and a bit of creative thinking.
